Focal has launched an initiative that aims
to encourage local school children to use
public transport whenever possible.
Luxulyan School was
the first to be selected due to its close proximity to our Branch Line and
Headmaster Brian McCaldin's desire to educate pupils about alternative
forms of transport.
On 17th March 2010 35
pupils travelled with teachers from Luxulyan to Newquay where they took a
bus to The Huer's Hut
and followed an historic walk to the
harbour.
The project was supported by the Devon &
Cornwall Rail Partnership
(D&CRP), Cornwall Council, Western
Greyhound Buses and First Great Western.
Rebecca from D&CRP, Phil from Western
Greyhound and Focal members had met the
young people a week before when they
participated in a discussion about train
and bus travel. Focal produced an
information and quiz leaflet for the
journey and commissioned
Blue Light Media to film the day.
The result is in the viewing. D&CRP,
the Council and Focal are committed
to the future development of this
initiative.
This DVD presents a series of short films, collected
& narrated by local railway historian, Focal member and one-time
Newquay Station Master Stan May. The films date from 1936 to 1963.
The 40-minute DVD has
been compiled and edited by Geoff Mason Brown and costs just £10.50 incl.
p&p.
