Celebrating Success

In just two years The Focal Group has achieved a 75% increase in the frequency of local services on the Newquay Branch Line, from four to seven services a day, beginning 15th December 2008.

The new timetable includes early morning and late evening services, allowing the possibility of commuting for the first time in many years.

The new service also provides for better connections with the main line.

This change has been made possible by the careful reallocation of diesel units in the West Country, resulting in the Newquay branch having a dedicated unit every weekday.

First Step to Improved Services, May 2008

Great Western have purchased an extra train to run between Newquay and Par from December 2008, offering two new services to local communities, as Focal's Alan Nicholson-Florence explains in the Newquay Voice (right).

  • The new early morning service is scheduled to depart Newquay 7.25am, arriving Par 8.30am

  • The additional evening service runs at 9.55pm, arriving Par 10.43pm

Thanks are due to First Great Western, and to the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership for their support in achieving this important milestone.

Important Note:  unfortunately this article contains errors.  Richard Burningham, manager of the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership, did not suggest that the St Austell – Newquay service could “make a fast return” nor did he imply that the decision and cost is the responsibility of Cornwall County Council.
