Celebrating Success
In just
two years The
Focal
Group has achieved a 75% increase in the frequency of local services on
the Newquay Branch Line, from four to seven services a day,
beginning 15th December 2008.
The new
timetable includes early morning and late evening services, allowing
the possibility of commuting for the first time in many years.
The new service
also provides for better connections with the main line.
This change has
been made possible by the careful reallocation of diesel units in
the West Country, resulting in the Newquay branch having a dedicated
unit every weekday.
On
Tuesday, 11th November Focal celebrated alongside 50 invited
guests on a very special rail journey from Par to Newquay followed by a
reception at the Great Western Hotel [more...]

Important Note: unfortunately this
article contains errors. Richard Burningham, manager of the Devon &
Cornwall Rail Partnership, did not suggest that the St Austell – Newquay
service could “make a fast return” nor did he imply that the decision and
cost is the responsibility of Cornwall County Council.
