NBL (Cornwall) CIC

In November 2007 Focal registered a Community Interest Company (CIC) with the aim of attracting funding for feasibility studies and other activities.

Originally registered as PNR (Cornwall) CIC the company has now been re-registered NBL (Cornwall) CIC.  NBL stands for Newquay Branch Line.

Community Interest Companies (CICs) are a new type of limited company designed specifically for those wishing to operate for the benefit of the community rather than for the benefit of the owners of the company.  This means that a CIC cannot be formed or used solely for the personal gain of a particular person, or group of people.

The aim of the CIC incorporation is to attract investors, institutional lenders and local funding agencies to provide funds to allow the company to carry out feasibility studies and pursue marketing activities, such as market research, advertising and promotions.

Discussions with First Great Western (FGW) have confirmed their willingness to work with NBL (Cornwall) on condition that any improvements to the local service in terms of extra trains, train units and crew are self-funding.

As a result NBL (Cornwall) CIC hope to be able to develop, together with FGW, operational plans for a local service that better services the need of all local communities on and in the surrounding areas of the branch line.
